Academic Calendar
The MIT-Zaragoza Master of Engineering in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) requires nine months of full time study in English, beginning in late August and concluding with commencement the following May. The academic calendar is phases: Orientation, Fall Semester, International Exchange, and Spring Semester. See more details
ZLOG Curriculum
ZLOG builds upon the successful curriculum at MIT, which is consistently ranked first in the area of logistics and supply chain management. Students must complete core and elective coursework, a master’s thesis, and participate in the International Exchange.
Graduates receive a master's degree from the University of Zaragoza and a certificate from the MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program.
Leadership Focus – Leadership is emphasized throughout the nine-month program, beginning fall semester with a focus on self-assessment instruments and role-playing exercises that help students understand their individual approach in group settings and one-on-one interactions. Team dynamics are the focus during the international exchange with seminars on leading change in an organization and sessions discussing lessons
from the Supply Chain Challenge. Finally, the spring semester develops research and communication skills required by thought leaders.
Practical Focus – The ZLOG program provides advanced education that is closely connected to industry practice. Courses integrate the case method to reinforce foundational concepts and develop problem solving skills. The case studies focus on integrated decision making across the material, information and financial flows of the supply chain, organizational transformation, and supply chain strategy. Students are also exposed to industry through seminars lead by practitioners and special facility tours. See selected Tours, Workshops and Seminars
Thesis Project –
Each ZLOG student is required to complete a research thesis for academic credit. It provides opportunity for students to conceive and execute independent research on a topic chosen by the student. Typically, the research directly involves one or more companies or organizations. Some companies that have collaborated with ZLOG research projects in the past are: Bell Labs, i2, Lucent Technologies, Metro AG, Nokia, Novartis, Oxfam, PepsiCo, and Sun Microsystems.
Occasionally, research topics that are larger in scope require a team of master's students. A faculty supervisor is assigned to each thesis project to provide guidance for the research effort and writing process. Final presentations are made at an event open to the supply chain community. In addition, a panel of experienced academic and industry representatives selects the “ZLOG Best Thesis Award” in recognition of the most outstanding Master’s Thesis Project of the Class.
