Head of Supply Chain Management Team
(ZLOG Class of 2010)
1. Describe your current job responsibilities
I currently work for Samsung Electronics Italia as a Supply Chain Manager, leading the Supply Chain Management & Operations Team for Samsung Mobile in Italy, where Samsung mobile ranks as number 1 in market share. My team is responsible for a great variety of SCM activities for mobile products in the Italian market such as demand planning, purchasing, deployment, inventory control & collaboration (CPFR) with customers.
2. Describe your career path before you attended ZLOG
Before attending the ZLOG program I worked for 6 years for LG Telecom, a mobile wireless network operator in Korea. Being in charge of rental phone products in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) division, I forecasted demand for rental phones, sourced materials and planned production and distribution in the channel.
3. Why did you decide to attend ZLOG?
I wanted to specialize my career in a certain field. After a long investigation, I found out that Supply Chain Management is a very promising field and that MIT and the MIT global scale network offers the best within Supply Chain Management education.
4. What are the most valuable assets you gained through your ZLOG experience?
The ZLOG program enhanced my analytical skills which enabled me to solve a variety of complicated SCM issues. Also, the global diversity experience and the leadership skills that I gained through my ZLOG program allowed me, a foreigner in Italy, to be promoted to a position of leading local team members.
5. How did your ZLOG degree impact your job search?
First of all, the MIT interaction made my resumé stand out among other applicants. Secondly, most of interviewers that I met regarded my ZLOG degree, a master of engineering in SCM, as more specialized than a MBA degree. In addition to this, I was able to provide well thought-through and analytically solid answers to their questions. Therefore, before graduation, I was able to acquire several job offers from great companies including consulting companies and renowned manufacturing companies.
6. Does your ZLOG education affect the way you currently do your job?
Back to work after the ZLOG education, my tasks have been supported by strong analytical tools and academic knowledge. Therefore, the mobile division of Samsung Electronics Italy has been selected as the best in SCM performance among Samsung's European subsidiaries.
Also, having gone through various team works with international students, I have gained valuable experience in leading people from diverse cultures towards a common goal.
7. What would you say to a prospective student thinking about joining the ZLOG program?
The ZLOG program consists of excellent students from all over the world, pursuing the best in the SCM field. If you feel SCM is right for you and aim to be the best, go for the ZLOG - whatever it takes.
