In 2003, MIT Center for Transporation and Logistics (MIT-CTL) signed a 10-year partnership with the Government of Aragón, Spain, to help create the leading European education and research program for logistics and supply chain management in Zaragoza. As a result, the Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) was established as a research institute of the University of Zaragoza and located in the Plataforma Logística de Zaragoza (PLAZA), which is the largest logistics park in Europe. CTL works with the ZLC on research, graduate education, executive training, and outreach events for the international and regional communities. Both parties have agreed to an extension to 2023 of this partnership agreement.

Various extensions of the activities undertaken at ZLC are now under active discussion. These include joint executive education and research programs with other Partners in the MIT global scale network.

ZLC was the first center of the MIT Global SCALE Network established abroad. The network is an international alliance of leading research centers dedicated to the development of supply chain and logistics excellence through innovation. It expanded in 2008 with the opening of the Center for Latin American Logistics Innovation (CLI) in Bogotá Colombia and then again in 2011 with the creation of the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) in Shah Alam, Malaysia. Collectively, the SCALE Network, which includes MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics (CTL), now spans four continents.
