Making a chain of connections throughout Latin America

MIT’s Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL) teamed with the Bogotá-based consultancy LOGyCA in 2008 to create an education and research facility in the city aimed at helping graduates and educators to tackle the issue. Called the Center for LatinAmerican Logistics Innovation (CLI), the new school offers a graduate certificate in logistics and supply chain management as a specialisation within a standard masters programme in industrial engineering, business administration, or similar discipline at selected universities in the region.

Malaria Announcement

Half of the world’s population is at risk of malaria. In 2006, there were 247 million cases and nearly 881,000 malaria deaths — of which 91% were in Africa, and 85% were of children under 5 years of age. Each year, approximately 50 million women living in malaria-endemic countries become pregnant, over half of whom live in Africa, and an estimated 10,000 of these women and 200,000 infants die as a result of malaria infection during pregnancy*.

MIT news: A renaissance in logistics for economic growth

An aerial shot of the Plataforma Logística de Zaragoza (PLAZA), the largest logistics park in Europe, which was designed through a partnership with MIT. The Zaragoza Logistics Center, a new research institute established through the partnership with MIT, is also based in the middle of the logistics park.

Logistics program at the Zaragoza Logistics Center has received a Grant of US$492,857.00 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to study the most effective way to estimate the demand for global health products. The study results could have a profound impact on the planning and quantification processes used in global health programs and would also help create a healthy supply market for these products.
