PhD student eRBANITY project

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) in Spain have partnered to create an international program for education and research in logistics & supply chain management. This successful partnership led to the creation of the MIT Global SCALE Network that now spans four continents. ZLC offers a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The main goal of this PhD Program is to develop outstanding scholars who will pursue distinguished careers in research and education.

The ZLC has now an opening for a PhD student working for the eRBANITY project (Social and spatio-temporal effects of the digitalization of activities in urban accessibility planning).

eRBANITY research project, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, focuses on studying the social and spatial effects of the digitalization of activities in urban accessibility planning. The main objective of the thesis is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in urban mobility, with a particular focus on the effects of online activities such as online shopping or remote work.

Working under the supervision of the Director of Research at the Zaragoza Logistics Center, the position has the following functions:

• Perform original research within the framework of the project, including review of scientific literature.

• Develop and apply quantitative (e.g., econometric models, spatial analysis) and qualitative methods (e.g., surveys, interviews).

• Present research results in scientific journals and international conferences.

• Collaborate with other members of the research team and attend project meetings.

• Carry out short research stays abroad financed by the project.

Applicants should have Master’s degree in spatial planning, urban planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), architecture, transportation, smart cities and/or related areas. English skills are required.

Desired additional skills include:

• Knowledge and/or experience with GIS (ArcGIS, QSIG)

• Knowledge and/or experience in econometrics models (multivariate models, structural systems of equations)

Knowledge in programming and previous publications in scientific journals are a plus.
