The Medicines Transparency Alliance (MeTA) is a DFID led initiative that will work through national and international partners (including DFID, the World Health Organization and Health Action International) to support national efforts to enhance transparency and build capacity in medicines policy, procurement and supply chain management. MeTA is also in the process of developing a research network around access to medicines issues. This access to medicines research network would undertake research on priority issues identified by MeTA pilot countries and by other stakeholders. Some of these might be specific to particular countries; others will be of wider international significance. The MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program and the Zaragoza Logistics Center have been involved in MeTA from an early stage specifically through their research on pharmaceutical supply chains in low and middle income countries.

MeTA will be formally launched on May 15th in London with representatives from pilot countries, World Bank, WHO, international partners and NGOs. Prashant Yadav will speak at the launch event on “How to make pharmaceutical markets work for the poor”
