Speaker: Colin Smith, Programme Manager – Freight and Clean Vehicle Retrofit at Energy Saving Trust
Colin Smith has been involved within transport certification at the Energy Saving Trust (EST) since 2007 and is currently involved in various projects relating to transport fleet emissions and air quality. This work includes assessment and certification of fleet GHG emissions and retrofit emission reduction systems for road transport to support the set-up of Clean Air Zones (CAZs) in England, Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in Scotland and the London Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). This current work is built on EST’s strong track record in setting standards, test protocols and company requirements related to the installation of retrofit systems and adoption of alternative fuels.
With respect to transport GHG emission accounting, assurance and certification, Colin was the project lead at EST for the Green Freight Europe (GFE) programme and is a recognised expert on logistics emissions accounting and assurance within the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC). The GLEC and its facilitator the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) aims to harmonise emissions reporting across multimodal supply chains and support companies to minimise emissions from transport operations. EST is a consortium partner within the EC Horizon 2020 funded LEARN Project, that has the objective of “empowering business to reduce their carbon footprint across their global logistics supply chains through emissions measurement, reporting and verification (MRV)”.
Prior to joining EST, Colin worked in the automotive sector within component supply for 9 years and the chemical industry for 11 years, starting his career in R&D while completing a degree in Chemical Engineerin.
