More than 400 students from 45 countries Receive Master’s Degrees from ZLC in Zaragoza
- Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) graduates the 10th Master’s of Logistics class and the 7th MIT Zaragoza Master’s Degree class.
- From 25 different countries, the 31 MIT Zaragoza Master in Logistics & Supply Chain Management (ZLOG) students received their diplomas today along with the 24 students of the tenth Master’s in Logistics (MdL) class.
ZARAGOZA.- 31 May 2011.- More than 400 students from a total of 45 countries have passed through the halls of Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) where the 7th graduating class received degrees today from the MIT Zaragoza Master’s program which was established in collaboration with the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Also graduating today were the students of the 10th Master’s in Logistics class – the other master’s program that is taught at ZLC.
The Regional Minister of Science, Technology and University and President of the Zaragoza Logistics Center Foundation Board of Trustees, Javier Velasco, and the Dean of University of Zaragoza Research, José Ramón Beltrán, participated in the graduation ceremony for the two logistics master’s programs that the Zaragoza Logistics Center offers in the Aragonese capital.
The MIT-Zaragoza Master’s (also known as ZLOG) is a nine-month full-time program fully taught in English by international professors. Located in the heart of PLAZA, the Zaragoza Logistics Center university institute offers the master’s which features a three-week stay at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics as part of the curriculum. Upon graduating, students receive a diploma from the University of Zaragoza and an MIT CTL certificate.
31 Students from 25 Different Countries
This markedly international master’s program graduated its seventh class with 31 students from 25 different countries, 22% women. Only 3 of these students are Spanish, including a woman from Aragon. Forty-seven percent already hold a post-graduate degree (most commonly MBAs).
The ZLOG program is an opportunity for candidates who are seeking a career in international logistics and supply chain management. To date, 18 Spanish students (around 12% of the total) have graduated and are currently working for Accenture, Heineken, Hewlett-Packard, JDA, Oxfam and Roche, among others, in countries like Spain, the United States, Holland, Switzerland and South Africa. Eight of these students are from the Aragon region.
Senior Vice President and Head of Global Supply Chain for BASF, Robert Blackburn, gave the traditional commencement speech at the University of Zaragoza Paranymph hall.
Best Master’s Degree Final Project Award
The award for the Best Master’s Degree Final Project was bestowed during the ceremony upon Pedro Campos, from Brazil, and Álvaro Galve, from Spain, for their paper Direct-to-Pharmacy Distribution in Spain: An Operational and Politico-Economic Analysis. Under the direction of Dr. Prashant Yadav, MIT Zaragoza Program Professor, this project aims to design an operational strategy to create a more direct and efficient distribution model for Spanish pharmacies. The study suggests the use of non-market strategies that allow for changes in current regulations and acceptance of this distribution model by all parties involved. Registration for the next ZLOG academic year, which begins mid-August, is still open for Spanish students. Moreover, ZLC offers various specific grants for students from Spain and Aragon covering all or part of the fees which currently total €21,500.
