And 20 years later, here you are again. This interview is especially meaningful to us as you are one of the first graduates of ZLC’s Master’s in Logistics. Your professional career is an example of a success story and a great reference for future program candidates. Thank you very much for your participation.
Being Purchasing Director at Vajillas Eneriz, you decided to make a change in your professional career and specialize in Logistics and Supply Chain with ZLC’s Master’s program. That was already two decades ago… What memories do you have from that time?
I remember that, for most of us, logistics was an unknown discipline because no one had explained it to us at university. The ZLC Master’s in Logistics aimed to fill that gap, and it succeeded. However, it lasted two years, and balancing it with work and family was quite challenging.
From the time you graduated from the Master’s to today, where you serve as Supply Chain Director at Bergner, your leadership roles at companies such as Porcelanosa stand out. Do you believe that your training at ZLC had a positive influence on your professional career?
It was decisive for my joining the Porcelanosa Group. There, over fifteen years, I had the opportunity to apply much of the knowledge I gained from the excellent professors we had, many of whom I still maintain an excellent relationship with.
In 2015, you decided to join Bergner, an Austrian group specialized in kitchenware and home goods that has expanded its product range in recent years and has experienced sustained growth of 20%. What is the formula for its success?
Bergner specializes in creating products that enhance the home experience. The Bergner brand is synonymous with innovation, value, and quality. Our goal is to grow alongside our partners and customers worldwide and provide global solutions to consumers.
At a certain point, management decided to establish its European subsidiary in Zaragoza, and shortly after opened a logistics warehouse in the same city, from which it ships products to a wide variety of countries. What are the major challenges facing Bergner’s supply chain in 2022?
We are currently experiencing tremendous disruption in the supply chain; COVID, the energy crisis, and the war in Ukraine have forced companies, in record time, to adapt to these unplanned situations. We must remain highly agile, diversify risks, increase productivity, and continue with the digitalization plan across all our processes.
And to face these challenges, it is clear that having a qualified team is essential. Do you believe in the importance of continuous training?
It is essential to have a qualified team. Logistics is a discipline that requires a great deal of knowledge and experience and is constantly evolving. A good logistics professional must continue training and stay up to date with the latest trends.
Would you recommend the Master’s program to profiles like yours at the time—people who are currently working but wish to specialize in a growing field?
ZLC is a leading center for logistics knowledge in Spain and Europe. This sector will continue to grow for a long time, but it requires a high level of professionalism, and there is a shortage of qualified professionals.
Many members of the Supply Chain team have passed through ZLC’s classrooms, which has allowed them to specialize and learn this highly demanding yet rewarding profession.
Currently, Víctor is Managing Director of Gil Escoin and Deputy General Manager of TXT Transporte y Logística. Thank you for inspiring future generations of leaders in logistics and supply chain.
