The Valenciaport Foundation leads the Spanish pilot of the TRANSCEND project to strengthen logistics resilience

The Valenciaport Foundation, in collaboration with 21 entities from 7 EU countries and Canada, is leading the Spanish pilot of the TRANSCEND project (‘Transport resilience against Cyber and Non-Cyber Events to prevent Network Disruption’), a pioneering initiative funded by the Horizon Europe program. This project aims to enhance the resilience of critical freight transport infrastructures against physical, cyber, and hybrid threats.

The project, coordinated by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology, has a budget of over 5 million euros and will run until August 2027. Its purpose is to equip operators of critical transport infrastructures with advanced tools, guidelines, and technological solutions to reduce risks and improve safety in their logistics operations.

Role of the Valenciaport Foundation in the Spanish Pilot

The Valenciaport Foundation leads the deployment of a modular Control Tower, a digital platform with integrated business intelligence, which will be implemented in a multimodal transport scenario from the Port of Valencia to the Zaragoza Logistics Center by rail. The main objective of this pilot is to optimize the safety and efficiency of logistics operations, ensuring better real-time monitoring and risk management.

The Control Tower will enable the combination of multiple data flows collected from various sources to better understand the current situation, anticipate potential risks, and make appropriate decisions using artificial intelligence and machine learning. This platform will focus on key aspects such as:

  • Collaboration and information exchange during transport operations.
  • Real-time monitoring of logistics assets at container terminals and by rail.
  • Protection of wireless networks on trains to prevent system intrusions.
  • Secure physical access control to terminals and trains, ensuring constant supervision to prevent unauthorized access.

Innovation and International Collaboration

The TRANSCEND project is an example of international collaboration, involving prominent entities such as the Zaragoza Logistics Center Foundation, Cosco Shipping Ports, CSP Iberian Valencia Terminal, CSP Logitren, the Ministry of the Interior (Spain), among others. This alliance seeks to strengthen the European logistics sector through the implementation of advanced technologies and the creation of a safer and more resilient environment for freight transport management.

A Commitment to Safety and Logistics Efficiency

The Valenciaport Foundation and the entities participating in the TRANSCEND project are committed to transforming logistics management by developing a platform that enables operators to anticipate threats and make informed decisions in real time. This pioneering initiative aims to ensure safer, more efficient, and resilient logistics, promoting the use of advanced technologies and collaboration among key industry players.

This activity, co-funded by the Horizon Europe program, reinforces Zaragoza‘s role as a logistics leader in Europe and reaffirms the Valenciaport Foundation‘s commitment to innovation and safety in freight transport.
