The blended master's degree refers to a new option that is being developed by MIT that would allow learners to combine the MITx MicroMasters credential with one+ semester at Zaragoza Logistics Center in Zaragoza, Spain (and which will also include 3 week stay at MIT).  The MicroMasters credential requires a learner to successfully pass five rigorous online courses in supply chain management and also pass a proctored comprehensive exam. Learners with the MITx MicroMasters credential in SCM can then apply to MIT for the blended SCM master’s degree. This new program would require the successful applicant to come to MIT for January and continue studies in Zaragoza through May.

For the Blended ZLOG Master's Degree, the admissions committee will review the following items:

  • Performance in the five online courses (SC0x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x) and the capstone exam
  • Undergraduate transcript to confirm bachelor’s degree
  • IELTS/TOEFL from non-English-speaking nations
  • Written description of research project proposal
  • Video statement of research interests
  • Resume to review at least three years of work experience and any awards or commendations
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Research Project --- SCMb applicants will need to create a two-page description of their proposed Research Project.

Admissions Requirements

For the Blended ZLOG Masters program, we will not require applicants to take the GMAT or GRE test, nor will we be looking at their undergraduate GPA, nor the undergraduate courses they have taken. Performance in the five online courses and capstone exam will substitute for these items. This allows learners with non-traditional backgrounds and education to enter into the SCM masters program.

However, since the Blended Masters students will need to complete their masters capstone in only five months instead of the usual 10 months, we will be looking closely at their outline of their proposed project. Successful candidates will need to put time and energy into carefully preparing their proposal in advance of their application, possibly including engagement with a company to sponsor their project or through an entrepreneurship program.

Applications submitted early will not be reviewed until after the June 15 deadline. Applicants are encouraged to start their profile and application early.

Applications opens: April 1, 2017
Applications due: June 15, 2017

To earn a Blended SCM Masters degree, a candidate must first earn the MicroMasters credential. These five online courses are/will be available for free unless the learner wishes to receive a Verified Certificate (required for the MicroMasters credential), which currently costs US$150 per course. There will also be a cost (estimated at $600) to take the proctored comprehensive final exam for the MITx MicroMasters credential. Therefore, the total cost for the MITx MicroMasters credential will be US$1350.
The tuition for the blended program is 17.700€ (10900€ Academic Fees and 6900€ Other Tuition Costs) plus living expenses. Living expenses vary, depending on your living style and whether students live alone, with roommates, or have a family. Currently, a budget of 600€ per month is recommended for single students.
