Researcher

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Zaragoza Logistics Center (ZLC) in Spain have partnered to create an international program for education and research in logistics & supply chain management. This successful partnership led to the creation of the MIT Global SCALE Network that now spans four continents. The ZLC has now an opening for a Researcher under the Resilience, Supply Chain Security and Risk Management area.

The mission of the Researcher would be to improve and promote knowledge in Supply Chain and Logistics, specifically in the area of Supply Chain Resilience, always under the parameters of international excellence, through participation in public and private research projects, publications in journals and/or reference books, as well as participation in congresses and conferences.

Working under the supervision of the Director of Research at the Zaragoza Logistics Center, the position has the following functions:

  • Lead or participate in national or international public and private research projects, presentation of proposals, collaboration in projects led by other researchers, etc.
  • Contribute with scientific publications in specialized academic journals, books, cases, professional publications, etc.
  • Participate as speaker at conferences, congresses, webinars, practitioner fora, etc.
  • Minor contribution to teaching activities through participation in the center’s education programs, supervision of master’s thesis, etc.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in supply chain management, transport, transport operations, transport economy, operations research, operations management, industrial engineering, or related disciplines with demonstrable experience in previous projects conducting high quality research in the area of supply chain resilience, as well as relevant publications. Previous experience in EU research projects is considered as a plus. English skills are required, Spanish is a plus.

Desired additional skills include:

  • Strong understanding of risks and vulnerability analysis, and resilience strategies within supply chains and transport infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of climate change impacts on supply chains, logistics, and transport infrastructure.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing/researching with predictive analytics models for supply chains.
  • Experience with digital twins, preferably involved in the development of dedicated software libraries for predictive analytics and simulation.
  • Proficiency in programming with data science/statistics and simulation software.
