In December 2011 the Regional Government of Aragon determined the awarding of the regional grants for R&D projects. Zaragoza Logistics Center, in collaboration with the company INCLAM, S.A., has obtained funding to carry out the project CO2 LOGISTIC. This project will calculate the CO2 emissions (greenhouse gases) generated by the logistics sector of Aragon though its daily activities.

The calculating methodology will be created through research, development, and data collection for a documental database about the emissions and the conversion factors and data regarding elements, activities, processes, and products that form part of the logistics sector in Aragon. Grupo Carreras S.A. will provide its warehouse in PLAZA as the facility to carry out a pilot that will validate the tool to be created.

Among the main objectives of CO2 LOGISTIC is the development of an IT tool that will permit the integration of the methodology and the knowledge generated during the project, in such a way that the information can be accessible to the current market, and that the calculation of the carbon footprint of the logistics sector in Aragon, and more concretely in the Logistics Platform of Zaragoza (PLAZA), will be converted into a feasible and viable reality.

The project will also organize a series of diverse dissemination events throughout the year 2012, for which all the companies and institutions directly related to the logistics activity in Aragon, will be invited.
